We would like to invite you to two upcoming Grand Rounds on the highly topical subject of 'Medicine and AI':
Session One:
Wednesday, 7 October 2026, 16:00-18:00 CEST
This first session will focus on Expert Updates and Ethical Questions, with Caio Fábio Schlechta Portella, Jeremy Ng, and Oswald Hasselmann.
We are fortunate to welcome several researchers from the broader Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine (TCIM) community, who are directly researching AI applications and serving on expert international advisory panels. This is a chance to get a broad view, with a future-oriented perspective:
- AI Meets Traditional Medicine: Historical Development, Opportunities and Risks
Caio Fábio Schlechta Portellais a naturopath with a PhD in Gynecology and Obstetrics from the University of São Paulo. He is now a postdoctoral fellow at the China–Portugal Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Artificial Intelligence and Public Health (Macau University of Science and Technology), president of the World Naturopathic Federation (2025–2027) and president of CABSIN, the Brazilian Academic Consortium for Integrative Health.
- Artificial Intelligence and Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine: Opportunities and Challenges for Anthroposophic Medicine
Dr. Jeremy Y. Ng, MSc, PhD, is an experienced health research methodologist, having authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications. Dr. Ng serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Complementary and Integrative Medicine. Dr. Ng is a Scientist at the Institute of General Practice and Interprofessional Care, University Hospital Tübingen and an Assistant Professor at the McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
- The Unfortunate Siblings, AI and Critical Thinking
Oswald Hasselmann, MD, recently retired as a leading neuropediatrician of the Children’s Hospital in Eastern Switzerland, with the integration of Complementary Medicine into clinical practice very close to his heart. For the last four years he has been President of the Swiss Society of Bioethics and member of the Central Ethical Commission in Berne. He works to further ethical attitudes in health care, establishing specific training in clinical ethics and contribute to the formulation of ethical guidelines.
Session Two:
Wednesday, 2 December 2026, 16:00-17:30 CET
A special presentation and discussion with the medical section leadership, to together find key insights and offerings of anthroposophy for a world that is changing very quickly. We will explore how we can meet the spiritual needs for a world with AI and what people will hunger for.
